Quick Facts About Nasarawa State

Nasarawa State

Nasarawa State is a state in the North Central region of Nigeria, bordered to the east by Taraba and Plateau, to the north by Kaduna State, to the south by Kogi and Benue, and to the west by the Federal Capital Territory.

Nasarawa was established on 1 October 1996 by the Abacha government, splitting it from the today neighboring Plateau State which previously had contained both their territories.

Nasarawa is a market centre for the yams, sorghum, millet, soybeans, shea nuts, and cotton grown in the surrounding area.

Nassarawa is composed of different ethnic groups each with its own distinct local dialect but Hausa is common among the people.

There are 29 languages spoken in the state, the major ones being: Agatu, Basa, Eggon, Gbagyi, Gade, Goemai, Gwandara, Ham, Kofyar, and Lijili e.t.c

The State is nicknamed “Home of Solid Minerals” because of its huge deposits of mineral resources.

The north-eastern and north-western parts of Nasarawa house solid minerals of economic potentials, including gold at Wamba; tin, columbite, and tantalite at Akwanga; and granite rocks in Nasarawa Eggon.
