Ekiti State

Ekiti State is a state in southwestern Nigeria, bordered to the north by Kwara State, to the northeast by Kogi State, to the south and southeast by Ondo State, and to the west by Osun State.

Ekiti was carved out of the territory of old ondo state. It constitutes one of the largest Yoruba sub-group in Nigeria.

It was largely known that Ekiti land constituted well over 40% of the cocoa products of the famous old Western Region.

The land is also known for its forest resources, notably timber, and in March 2022, Obeche (Triplochiton scleroxylon) was adopted as State Tree due to its prominence and economic significance.

Ekiti State is blessed with Mineral deposits; the land of honour is also known for its mineral deposits such as aquamarine, gemstones, limestone, columbite, iron ore, granite, baryteamidst others.

Another noteworthy fact about Ekiti state is its vast water resources and mountains that beautify the state. These tourist centres such as : Fajuyi memorial park, Ado Ekiti Ikogosi warm spring (a delight for tourists and lovers of nature), Olosunta Hills, Iworoko Mountains, Ikere Ekiti Hills, Efon Alaiye Hills, Ipole-Iloro Waterfalls are one of the unique features of Ekiti state and contribute to the state’s GDP.

Ekiti State is rich in agricultural resources, the leading cash crop in Ekiti state is cocoa. Other forest resources include various species of timber and luxuriant vegetation with some edible plants for consumption and sale at the local markets. Other food crops include yam, maize, rice, Kolanut, and cassava which are cultivated in large quantities.
