Bauchi State

Bauchi, state, northeastern Nigeria. Before 1976 it was a province in former North-Eastern state. Bauchi is bounded by the states of Jigawa and Kano on the northwest; Kaduna on the west; Plateau, Taraba, and Gombe on the south; and Yobe on the east.

Bauchi State has 55 tribal groups in total. The main tribes are Gerawa, Sayawa, Jarawa, Kirfawa, Turawa, Karekare, Bolewa, Kanuri, Butawa, Fa’awa, Warjawa, Boyawa, Zulawa, MBadawa, Hausa and Fulani.

As a major agriculture-based state, the Bauchi State economy partially relies on livestock and crops such as cotton, groundnuts, millet, tomatoes, and yams with advanced irrigation schemes increasing agricultural production since statehood.

Bauchi state is home to notable historical figures prominent individuals like Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, General Murtala Ramat Mohammed, and Alhaji Umaru Dikko e.t.c

Bauchi state has an impressive array of wildlife, prominent amongst them is the Yankari National Park which house elephants, lions, buffalos, and over 350 bird species in their natural habitat.

The Durban remains one of the key festivals in the state. It features the display of elaborately adorned horses displayed in all their glory and commences from the Eid prayer ground to the palace of the traditional rulers, where horse-racing takes place.
